Andre Berto has pulled out of his January 30th bout against Shane Mosley, leaving the possibility for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to step in and face Mosley at a later date instead.
The reason for the fight being canceled in January at least is due to the disaster in Haiti, where Berto has relatives. Releasing a press statement about his reasons for withdrawing, Berto said:
“As a result of this disaster I am mentally and physically exhausted and therefore I have no choice but to withdraw from my bout on January 30,”
While this will probably have nixed any immediate fight for Mosley, he might be able to now land a more lucrative fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is also scrambling for an opponent after the talks between himself and Manny Pacquiao collapsed a few weeks ago.
Although Mayweather had intended to fight on March 13th originally, it now looks like any bout he can make will need to be pushed back given that Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey has now been made and a pay per view has already been approved.
