Andrei Arlovski took the time recently for a really long live video interview (over an hour). One of the main points he discusses is the claim by James Toney that they had to pull him off Arlovski during a sparring session at the wild card gym in LA.
Arlovski denies ever sparring with Toney, and says the entire incident is a fallacy. It did puzzle me as to why Toney would have been sparring an MMA fighter in the first place, whatever his aspirations for the future might be.
Although both were trained by Freddie Roach at one point and have met in the past, Toney was training for a bout at the time, and probably wouldn’t have sparred with someone who doesn’t have any professional boxing matches, whatever his talent level might be.
Toney is currently following Dana White around in the hopes of securing a fight in the UFC. Although the negotiations were taken seriously by both parties, by the sounds of it Toney valued his services way above what the UFC were willing to pay him, although don’t count him out just yet.
Arlovski last fought against Brett Rogers in the now folded Affliction promotion, and has takes time off since to work on his boxing, take a vacation and various other pursuits.
Immediately after the two losses, the first being to Fedor Emelianenko, Arlovski says he tried to kill himself and played Russian roulette, but has now gotten over the worst of his depression. He later clarifies that he didn’t actually try to kill himself, which is kind of confusing to anyone listening.
He now says he is ready to sign with a major promotion again, my guess would be that StrikeForce will be the front runner.
Some of the questions asked by the fans seem to be totally random, as he is asked has he ever experienced an earthquake (presumably in relation to Haiti, but still an odd question to ask). For anyone wondering, he hasn’t been in an earthquake.
He is also asked whether he is orthodox, which he says he is. Not sure if this means Belorussian orthodox or Russian, but I’m sure the person asking got the information that they wanted.
His latest foray, like many MMA fighters is into movies, specifically action movies with low budgets. Arlovski is no different, having acted in an upcoming Universal Soldier movie (I think that’s about the 6th now). A franchise that boasts acting chops from the likes of Dolph Lundgren, Bill Goldberg (the wrestler) and Jean Claude Van Damme.
Back to MMA though, Andrei thought Shogun beat Machida and says Fedor would beat Brock Lesnar, although says he wants Fedor to remain undefeated until he can get another rack at him.
I just wanted to say your web site is one of the nicely laid out, most inspirational I have come across in quite a while. Thx!
