Talking to the WXDX radio show with Mark Madden Frank Mir reportedly said:
“I want to fight Brock Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies to Octagon-related injuries.”
Mir of course famously lost to Lesnar in his last shot at the UFC heavyweight title, and has been looking for a third match between the two since then.
The first time they met Mir took a beating on the way to a kneebar against the still green Lesnar. In the second fight though Mir was pummeled from the opening bell without mounting much of an offense.
Since then Lesnar has been out of action because of a nasty case of diverticulitis, and is only now starting to recover and get back into training.
Mir takes on Shane Carwin for a shot at the heavyweight gold in his next fight, at UFC 111.
At the start of the feud between the two, Lesnar was the brash, unpopular fighter who many peopel associated ith professional wrestling.
Over the lats few moths though, Mir’s somewhat obsessive comments have turned many of his former fans against him, and Lesnar would now probably be considered the fan favorite if they pair fight again.
Of course saying you want to kill someone in the cage is the last thing the sport needs at it begins to gain mainstream exposure, whether Mir meant it or not. Don’t be surprised when you next read an anti-MMA article if they include Mir’s quote.
