Fast rising StrikeForce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi has severed all business ties with M-1 Global.

The Russian based company are still apparently on good terms with Mousasi, who will now be managed by an as yet to be named company.

Fans were quick to assume that Mousasi was on his way to the UFC with the announcement of the move, although this isn’t true for the time being at least.

Although Mousasi has expressed interest in fighting for the UFC in the future, he recently signed a lengthy contract with StrikeForce and still has commitments to Dream.

In an email, Mousasi wrote:

“After careful consideration, I have decided that it is in my best interest to part ways with M-1 Global. During the time I spent under their wing, M-1 Global, as a promoter and management company, allowed me to achieve many great things. I appreciate all they have done for me.”

Presumably now that he is a big star he has little need for M-1, who mainly represent up and coming fighters. Other than their main star and part owner Fedor Emelianenko that is.
