ABOUT THIS COLUMN

I could introduce myself to begin with, but that would be boring, the fact is, you don’t care who I am, you just want to know the good stuff about today’s world of wrestling and what I aim to bring to you.

That is of course a “Kayfabe” column documenting the weekly wars, meaning I will give you facts that you would see on-screen in relation to the wars, not the smark “star ratings” and criticisms you see on other sites. Why? Simple; because This Is Wrestling, and nobody wants to hear your opinions on how Kevin Nash sucks because he’s let his hair grey, that Triple H is on top because he’s married to Stephanie McMahon or how Hulk Hogan is using his backstage politics to get back on television. Who cares about that stuff? That ruins what wrestling is; entertainment.

So basically, my mission agenda is to deliver to you something that I have been successfully delivering for many years, a vintage professional wrestling column, free of so-called “facts” and modern day Internet ruined comments in regards to the talent you see on television. Think back to the days before spoiler sites, where the only time you would see Wrestling results and thoughts was on the official sites themselves and that is what I will be bringing to you on a weekly basis.

So, if you are a fan of the vintage art of professional wrestling and pro wrestling journalism, before criticizing and defamation-ridden YouTube blogs from out-of-shape smarks and before spoiler sites ruined everything – then Fight Sports Online’s “This Is Wrestling” Column is exactly what you are looking for – trust me, it’s pretty awesome.

Lets get right down to the foundations, to the groundwork of where the definitive era of wrestling – the Monday Night Wars began – and how they will change the future in 2010 and beyond.

THE BIRTH

The Wars of professional wrestling date back to the mid 1990’s when WCW Monday Nitro went live, head to head against WWF Monday Night RAW. This saw the most exciting and unpredictable action that wrestling has ever seen. Giving away the other promotions results live on air? Check. Stealing wrestlers from the other promotion and using them in invasion angles? Check. Invading the other promotion in an army tank? Check. The Monday Night Wars had it all; action, excitement and the biggest names in the history of wrestling.

Since the demise of WCW in 2001, wrestling fans all over the world have craved the vintage aspect of competition to breathe some life into the now stale and seemingly decadent world of professional wrestling once again, reminiscent of the times when Steve Austin and The Rock were the WWF’s equivalent of Goldberg and Sting and the New World Order and D-Generation X were the biggest and most controversial factions on television.

THE REBIRTH

On January 4th, 2010, their prayers were answered and their hopes and dreams became a reality as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, the fastest growing wrestling promotion in history, went live for the first time, thus spawning the new era of the Monday Night Wars and on March 8th, TNA Impact returns live against Monday Night RAW once again with the WWE sporting such globally renowned names as Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Batista, Randy Orton and John Cena against TNA’s roster consisting of the likes of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Sting, Kurt Angle, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.

However, in the midst of both promotions featuring veteran talent, they also feature a wide range of young stars. WWE RAW showcases the likes of Ted DiBiase Jr., Cody Rhodes, Evan Bourne and The Miz, whereas TNA also features a vast array of young talent such as the Motor City Machine Guns, Beer Money Inc, Frankie Kazarian and the TNA World Heavyweight Champion; “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles.

WHAT THE 2010 WAR MEANS

There are countless ways in which this brand new Monday Night War can benefit the world of professional wrestling, and that is with the forced aspect of change. For years, the WWE has been the global behemoth in this business and with a lack of competition; many fans comment that their product has become predictable and stale. Should the WWE see TNA’s rise as a threat, they will be forced to up their game, freshen and shake things up. The first sign of WWE acknowledging TNA Wrestling could arguably be the return of Bret “The Hitman” Hart on January 4th, 2010, along with the hype of him returning to the ring at WrestleMania; while this is not an official fact, it seems too much of a coincidence to be disregarded.

THIS IS WRESTLING

The 2010 war between WWE and TNA showcases perfectly TNA’s quick rise in the industry and their lust for worldwide domination, their passion to be the best. However, the obstacle that stands before them is the WWE, the most globally dominant organization in the history of professional wrestling. This is the promotion that laid the WCW and ECW to rest and everyone with any sense knows that Vince McMahon, the owner of the WWE, is an evil genius; one snap of his fingers and hell could freeze over but the same can be said for Eric Bischoff, Vince’s former WCW adversary who is now a head man over at TNA alongside Dixie Carter and Hulk Hogan.

Does TNA Wrestling have the power to continue to grow and thrive in the world of professional wrestling and combat the WWE? Wrestling is a political business, one which continues to defy the odds and excite the masses each and every week, each and every year. 2010 sees the return of competition, competition that has the power to bring back the unpredictable nature that lured in millions of fans on Monday Nights and that will arguably lure in millions more in the weeks to come.

The war is on between TNA Wrestling and the WWE; who will prevail, who will come out on top and who will reign supreme as the globally dominant professional wrestling organization? I am Wayne K. Wilkins, and I aim to document every aspect of this weekly war just for you to give you the very best kayfabe insight which brings me to my conclusion: Ladies and gentlemen and wrestling fans world over, fasten your seatbelts and get ready for the rollercoaster ride, because – This Is Wrestling!
