Most of the criticism Floyd Mayweather often faces stems from the fact that he doesn’t have the warrior mentality that a lot of the top fighters have. He’s happy to take an easy fight if the money is right, and isn’t ashamed to admit that he’s still boxing for the money not because he likes the thrill of the fight.

That way of thinking coupled with a technical but often uninspiring style has meant that Floyd finds himself one of the best fighters of his generation, but without many defenders when it comes to his choice of opponent.

In earlier years Floyd faced the elite fighters that were available to him, but since moving up to welterweight he has taken a much easier sequence of opponents than anyone claiming to be the best fighter in the sport should have.

After the fallout from the collapsed mega fight between himself and Manny Pacquiao, most of the negative attention was put on Floyd, and he and his team still not having announced a next opponent isn’t helping this.

If Mayweather wants to rebuild his reputation and start the inevitable build up towards another attempt at a fight against Pacquiao, then he needs to look good against a top drawer opponent.

Shane Mosley is the best available fighter for Floyd by a long chalk, but last minute snags in the negotiations might put his one on hold as well. There are rumors that Floyd isn’t happy with the comparatively small purse he would make from facing Mosley, who remains a more credible threat to  him than most of the other fighters that have been mentioned as possible opponents of late.

Sure he will get the lions share of the money, but at the same time he would be the one selling nearly all of the pay per views as well, and if he’s the  big draw then the incentive isn’t there to face the best fighters. His last fight sold over a million buys against an undersized opponent who he had very little danger of being beaten by. Fighting Mosley for similar money is a big risk by comparison.

Another possible opponent being connected to Floyd is Nate Campbell, although  having recently been a lightweight,  few would see him as much of a challenge for a much bigger Mayweather. Going from a 36 year old Marquez to a 37 year old Campbell is hardly world beating stuff for someone with a decent size advantage.

If there were something concrete about a top opponent later on in the year, then fans might be more willing to accept a tune up fight along the lines of Matthew Hatton or Saul Alvarez. As it stands at the moment though, there are only rumors and hearsay about a Pacquiao fight being back on the cards in the autumn, and given the problems that particular fight ran into last time around, fans can be forgiven for being a little skeptical.

If Floyd reads even a fraction of what most of the boxing writers out there are saying about him, then hopefully his ego won’t let a Mosley fight slip through his fingers.

It might not be as much money as he wants, but this fight alone can put him squarely back up there with Manny Pacquiao at the top of the welterweight rankings. another fight against a lighter opponent

“He (Gayweather) still hasn’t signed. I am so frustrated,” Schaefer said. . I don’t know what Floyd is waiting for. I have no clue. I have a signed contract from Shane on my desk. I have nothing from Floyd.” Schaefer as i told you…you are wasting your time on Floyd. Move on….

  2. Roy Andrews says:

Floyd Mayweather,jr. may be willing to fight Ivan(Iron boy) Calderon, Light-Flyweight Caldron, at 5ft. 108 pounds, is small enough not to scare Floyd, and at 34 maybe past his prime, but he is undefeated.
Floyd could say he is still p4p the best in the world because he beat an undefeated fighter

  3. Jack says:

if i were pacman don’t fight this bum and boring boxer of all time. he is just after money not rumble in the ring. he is just dancer in the ring. he is just runner in the ring. he is just skater in the ring. he is just chicken in the ring. he is just quack quack boxer so why him give recognition when in fact he is boring just like his evil dad and retard uncle.

  4. Jack says:

flaundry quack quack won’t fight mosley – he is just quack quack and no substance and overrated bum boxer. all his opponents were selected for his styles – he would the declining opponent than fight the names of cotto, margarito, mosley, clottey, pacman, the punisher, etc. he is just boring and quack boxer of all time. his dad is a convicted felon whom he followed and idolized to tell me who he is.

  5. Boxing Fan says:

Al Bernstein, Showtime Boxing Analyst: “It seems patently obvious to me that Floyd and his minions killed the Pacquiao fight. The bottom line is that the fight was basically a done deal before they decided to inject the demands for blood testing into the picture. Pure and simple, Golden Boy and Floyd and his advisers created the problem, and it ended up killing the fight.”

Dan Rafael from ESPN: “Mayweather shouldn’t be making accusations without a shred of proof as he tries to discredit all of Pacquiao’s great accomplishments, nor should he try to circumvent the Nevada rules by asking for blood tests when the commission has never
    asked for them.”

Timothy Bradley, WBO/WBC Jr. Welterweight Champion: “I don’t think Manny is on anything. He’s just on top of his game right now.”

Thomas Hauser, MaxBoxing.com: “There were times during the past month when the conduct of Team Mayweather had the look of an effort to sabotage the fight. A negotiator who wants to make a deal doesn’t go out of his way to antagonize and publicly embarrass the other side. But that’s what the Mayweathers and Golden Boy did.”

    Mike Silver, noted Boxing Historian:

“I think it fell apart because basically Mayweather never wanted to fight Pacquiao. He wants to continue and fight guys he can beat and fool the public.”

  6. Boxing Fan says:

    People, honestly now…

I don’t even know why Floyd is included in the Pound-for-pound list ?!!

He’s been a welterweight for years now and he doesn’t have any of the elite welters on his resume (no Williams, Margo, Cotto, Mosley, Collazo, Cintron, Berto, and now not even Pacquiao)

His last two fights were with JMM (a lightweight) and Hatton (a junior welter) !

For the life of me I cannot figure out how this is pound-for-pound worthy !!!

  7. colby says:

Hey Buddies!Tell you what,You will all just wasting your time talking about Gayweather.Nothing will happen. It will end up the same over and over again with POULTRY BOY FLOYD ducking this match AGAIN!! Coward! Coward! Coward! coward!Coward!……

  8. Antonio M says:

How about a rematch with JMM? No catchweight(JMM can stay at 125 lbs. floyd duck stay at 147.), 75/25 split, fight at Cowboy Stadium with no rings (to facilitate easy running for floyd), and the only stipulation is, that JMM’s pee must be tested for PED before JMM drinks it. I’m sure mayweather would love this fight.

  9. floyd the greatest of all time says:

im the greatest boxer of all time, i want edwin valero and ivan calderon @ catch wght 144 lbs limit……..

  10. Tamod@Kupal says:

If Mayfeather duck mosley this time, then this ducker doesn’t qualify to fight Pacman. Mayfeather can’t be sitting around waiting while Pacman is going to war. Pacman should fight Mosley instead for the undisputed ww champion.

  11. Mr. Cherry Picker says:

Bobby Pac wants also to fight Chicken Floyd anywhere, even inside his house! To show his mother how to beat her ugly baby!

  12. falconfighter says:

  14. pactard says:

Reebok is good for Floyd Jr. reeBOK BOK BOK KOK!!!

In his interview with Brian Kenny Floyd Jr. told the world that he is in it for the money!!! not for fame or legacy. That leads us to the question: WHY then pass on $40Million to fight PAC over a blood test to fight Shane Mosley who admitted using drugs for $10Million???? WHY??????????????

Every reporter should be asking Floyd that Question I wonder why not? Is it because there reporters are Americans like Floyd Jr.?

  15. lakay says:

    floyd’s dna is 50% coward,20% xylocaine,10% duck blood,10% chicken blood and 10% skills (dancing)

Hi Floyd!!! Its me “COWARD” are you the same with me? It is not obvious that you are the same with me.

  17. Abenir D. Ore says:

Oooh, come-on Floyd Mayweather, Jr. come back to earth, in order for you to see the reality and not just all the fantasy.

Go down your ego level a little bit, in order for you to see that you are just a stamping pad. Otherwise, you will likely be like the “The Last Emperor”…

  18. Prof.Puertos says:

Floyd will duck Mosley mark my words. In fighting mosley Floyd will get only a small money and worst He might be killed by Mosley. Floyd is not now salivating on PAC because the boxing world is still interested to watch Pac versus Clottey. The drug issue did not diminish PAC ’s popularity. If Floyd wish to fight PAC He should follow the rules set forth by a commission not on his mind.Pac does not need floyd in terms of money because PAC has plenty of it. Floyd should beg PAC and accept the rules of a commission.

  19. gijoe855 says:

Mayweather believed that he was the one who draw over million PPV duirng his giht with Marquez. The truth is half of the PPV were HIspanic viewers. In fact, they move the fight on Mexican holiday so they could sell more PPV. He is such an egocentric individual.

  20. ALEXXIS "THE GREAT" says:

FLOYD IS NOT A COWARD!!!!! HE IS JUST BEING REALISTIC. WHY FIGHT MOSTLY FOR 10 MILLION DOLLARS IF HE CAN GET 40 MILLION IN FIGHTING PACMAN.THE MATH IS SIMPLY NOT ACCEPTABLE IN ANY CASE OR WHATEVER CASE THESE IDIOTS ARE TRYING TO PROVE.

  30. Ferdi says:

Floyd’s option against Mosley is DUCK!!!! It’s very obvious that Floyd couldn’t put away Marquez – So what are Floyd’s chances of hurting Shane??? Maybe a half a dead man’s chance??? The writing is on the wall – Floyd is not going to risk $40 million to fight Shane – when he can fight a low risk fighter and save himself for Pacquiao. To Floyd, whatever makes $MONEY makes $SENSE… So don’t count your chicken (Floyd) before they hatch!!!
